Right when the Covid-19 quarantine hit the fan on my work laptop failed. IT cannot get me a new laptop at this time so I bought this cooler to try to keep my laptop alive and working until things get back to normal. It’s working great. Its almost silent and its keeping things cool, even with no internal fan on the laptop. I have an infrared thermometer and have confirmed that this thing is keeping my laptop at normal operating temp and a full 25° cooler than it was getting without the internal fan working and no external cooler.I’ve seen some comments in the reviews about this having a “tiny“ fan and that it does not blow very hard. True, but it does not take very much air movement to cool a laptop – we’re not dealing with a V-8 engine here. I can’t confirm whether this would work for a full on gaming laptop being pushed to its limits but for a Dell latitude business laptop doing normal business activities, it has no trouble keeping it cool for 8+ straight hours every day.

Works Great for 13″ Laptop
I use my 13″ laptop with a docking station. So it sits off on the side and i never open it. This is the perfect size to set the laptop on and keep it cool. It is not whisper quiet, but has just a slight hum. The cord is very short so you will need an extended cable. But seems to be working great as of 2/8/2023.

This cooler is exactly as described. It is quiet and a good size for using on my lap with my 16 MacBook Pro. It doesn’t necessarily cool the Mac substantially, but that is due to the design of the MacBook, not the Targus cooler. What it does do well is keep my legs cool while using it on the couch. My only gripe is that it does not have USB-C ports for powering it, but then I was not able to find a single cooler of any brand that does have USB-C.All in all a great product in a nice form factor that does what I need it to do.

Worked great for a week, then slowed significantly.
My laptop is over 8 years old and is definitely struggling to get by. It overheats like crazy, to the point where it’s to hot to touch it underneath the laptop and even on top of the keyboard. I bought this because my computer clearly needs assistance with cooling.It worked great for the first week- I could hear the fans whirring and my laptop stayed cool to the touch. But after the first week, the cooling unit has slowed significantly. I can barely hear the fans running anymore and my laptop is overheating again. The cooling mat is still plugged into my laptop, which is plugged into the wall, same as before, so nothing has changed. It’s just not working as well and I’m not sure why it’s stopped.

Just the right size for 16 inch laptop
This fits perfectly under my new 16 inch gaming computer. there is only one fan which is enough to keep my machine cool without making too much noise…it’s just a whisper! since the fan is in the center if it is on my lap it draws air from between my knees so my legs are not blocking the airflowIt plugs into a USB so there are no batteries and I don’t even notice the computer battery draining from the fan. The unit is very light and travels well giving a very slight tilt when on an airplane tray table. This tilt is not adjustable, if that’s what you need but there are little button legs on the bottom that keep it from sliding while giving it a centimeter to enable airflow.It works for me and I’m very happy with it

Fan is tiny; deceptively says has TWO fans in listing but has only one
While the fan on this is not noisy like that on the personal cooler that I bought to cool myself this coming summer (which maybe was damaged/dropped), it is very tiny. I was disappointed since the pad has one tiny fan. The construction is nice, but the SOLE, tiny, 80mm to 90mm fan is a joke, but not noisy, admittedly. I have not yet tested how well it will cool my laptop, but as pretty as it is, I doubt that it can cool my HP gaming laptop very well.CORRECTION: I just checked what I ordered, since I usually look for notebook coolers that appear good at cooling, and this cooler was for my gaming laptop. Looking at my invoice and the listing, I remembered that this cooler (as opposed to another cooler that I had ordered from another seller) actually was supposed to have TWO FANS, as stated in the INVOICE, but it actually only has ONE fan: Targus 16 inch Dual Fan Lap Chill Mat – Ergonomic, Neoprene Laptop Cooling Pad, Heat Pro… That is deceptive.While it has a standard MicroUSB connector to power it, so you could get those from anywhere easily, I do not recommend it, because it cools far less than cheaper coolers. It is, however, sturdy because it is made of hard plastic, so I just keep it in my trunk to use in emergencies, if I have to work long hours in some out-of-town coffee shop or hotel, but it does not cool as much as cheaper coolers. Thus, I do not use it in my office or home. In short, the one I got is the one fan one, even though it was FALSELY advertised on Amazon as having two fans.

After a year, this is still working really well. I use it on a lap desk with my laptop on top and wasn’t sure it would work. It does! It’s really quiet and definitely keeps my laptop from overheating. Recently, though, it overheated a couple of times. Vacuuming the top and bottom of the cooler took care of that problem.

Lower profile, quiet, works
I have a Dell XPS and it gets very hot when in use. This cooling mat helps to keep it from feeling like it’s going to burn a hole in my desk. It sits just over an inch high so it doesn’t add a lot of height to the laptop which is important for ergonomics. I also love that this is black without lights, which means it doesn’t stick out during the day and I can leave it running at night. This does not have an on/off switch, meaning once it’s plugged in it’s on, but that’s okay since I know it will always be running when the laptop is. It comes with a good length cable that is USB-A on the end you plug in to your computer and mini USB for the cooling mat. If you have a newer laptop that only has USB-C, you’ll need an adapter or a docking station that has the USB-A ports.

I have a 15″ Macbook Pro, which gets too hot to comfortably sit on your lap, particularly in warm weather. The Targus Chill Mat is absolutely perfect – it’s discreet and just a little smaller than the laptop itself so it doesn’t feel bulky or in the way. The fans are quiet and they keep my legs nice and cool when I’m sitting on the couch. It also keeps the laptop from sliding around too much.Didn’t expect to like it so much but it’s become a staple!
