MAX2 delivers True 8K, resulting in up to 21% more resolution than the competition.[1] This means sharper detail and unmatched image quality you only get from GoPro. Capture everything around you in 360 video while completely erasing your extension pole from the shot. You’ll be able to create immersive point-of-view footage, selfies, follow-cam footage and more from the same video. Capture the scene in front of you and your reaction at the same time without worrying about where the lenses are pointed—even in extreme conditions. MAX2 is tough and durable with replaceable lenses.[2] Just swap in a new one if a lens is damaged. After recording, automatically play back your footage in POV or Selfie mode or use the GoPro Quik app’s powerful, yet simple editing tools to Reframe your footage into shareable 4K videos. Go vertical for TikTok or widescreen for YouTube, change angles and perspectives, or add pro- quality effects. Incredible image quality, GoPro durability and packed with endless creative possibilities. It’s more than a 360 camera. It’s 360…MAX’D. [1] The resolution percentage increase is calculated based on the increase in pixels actively used to produce the final 360° image. It does not include any of the pixels in the overlap between the lenses, pixels beyond ±90° or the black areas surrounding the image circles. [2] Sold separately.
MAX Never Misses With True 8K 360 Video: Never aim, but capture everything around you in amazing True 8K 360 video, resulting in up to 21% more resolution than the competition.1 Just hit the shutter button to start recording. There’s no need to frame the shot or think about where your camera’s positioned. MAX2 will get it all in stunning detail. Then switch over to the GoPro Quik app to Reframe your 360 footage into traditional 4K videos in just a few taps. These Ultra HD videos can be easily saved, shared and posted just like you would with any standard video or played back on your phone, TV and other devices.
Invisible Mounting: Capture amazing pole-mounted footage where the pole completely vanishes. Attach MAX2 to an extension pole using the 1/4-20 mounting threads on the bottom of the camera. The pole will disappear out of your videos and photos as if by magic. You can easily create incredible invisible selfies that look as if you’re being recorded by another person, stunning drone-like videos that look like you’re being recorded from the air and other iconic 360 shots.
The Best POV: Max out your creativity and get the widest, tallest, most- immersive point-of-view footage possible including selfies, follow-cam footage and more from the same 360 video. The GoPro Quik app makes it easy to Reframe your footage and create new videos from different angles and perspectives to get exactly the shots you want. You can also adjust video stabilization and Horizon Lock4 after recording.
Replaceable Glass Lenses: MAX2’s replaceable lenses are water-repelling and made from super strong optical glass—and if they’re ever scratched, you won’t have to replace the entire camera. Now you can record in extreme conditions knowing that you can simply swap out a damaged lens with a new replacement and get right back into the action without interfering with image quality.

QUIK mobile editing tool makes 360 video editing a breeze. Versatile multi-purpose 360 camera.
I have a variety of camera gears such as multiple GoPro action cams, GoPro Karma drone (ugh), DJI Mavic, DJI gimbal, mirrorless camera with multiple lenses, many tripods and lots of other camera related accessories. One thing I craved was a 360 camera and I decided to try out GoPro again. I was greatly disappointed by the Karma drone software issue, so I had low expectations for this MAX2 camera. And when I first started trying the MAX2 out, I was disappointed yet again when the website said that the MAX2 QUIK desktop video editing software was discontinued for almost a year for the Mac platform. I was about to throw a hissy fit but when I tried out the mobile version of the QUIK editing software, I was pleasantly surprised. Turns out that by using the phone accelerometer, I was able to easily change the viewing angle of the 360 video very easily, and it would have been a pain to do so using a desktop. The video quality seems adequate… actually it goes up to 8K, so unless I’m planning on cropping a majority of the video, it should be more than adequate for quite some time. I liked how the interface and functionality has been designed in a way to have all the most-needed-features in the right places, so I was happy with the various menu placements. Given how I will be able to use this for action sequences as well as various hard-to-frame video shoot scenarios, I think this will be quite useful and worth the money. I also liked how snappy the whole experience was, and that the menu reaction speed and the file transfer speed were all quite fast, much faster than what I was used to when using the older GoPro action cameras. I also liked how powerful the mobile QUIK video editing software has become, and it was easy to use the various advanced features (keyframe, mobile POV editing, special effects, AI object tracking). So all in all, I’m pretty satisfied for now.

NOT FOR MY NEEDS BUT MAY WORK FOR OTHERS
I am not going to go in depth of all the specs as you can get all that from manuals. Up until a year ago, I was a locked in GoPro user for many years but another brand’s lineup got my attention, especially for a 360, and I made the change. Given it had been 2 years for the release of the Max 2 I was hopeful there would be some big changes and wondered if I had jumped ship too soon. In a nutshell, I don’t think I did; however, that is b/c my main uses for a 360 are for on the water (day or night)……so please keep this in mind when reading as this may not apply for your use cases.PROs (high level that stand apart from my other 360 I already own)-Form factor: smallest profile for mounting and action and just feels more secure-Mounts: appreciate having the built in mounting options and not always having to have extra adapters-Replacement lenses: By far the easiest and most convenientCONs (high level that stand apart from my other 360 I already own)-No dive case yet……and will they??-Low light: this was the biggest issue for me and why I actually started pulling away from GoPro. GoPro really shines during the day but I was hoping an improvement in low light so I could use in my late afternoon, early evening paddling.-Overheating: I used this 1 hr before sunset on the water (was paddle boarding) and was surprised at how quickly it overheated. The wind was still with temps in the low 80s….recording in 4k. Oddly the next day I did during the day, full sun but was a breeze and didn’t overheat in 8k (though I didn’t shorter durations, around 5min recordings).-Stitch lines: compared to the competitor, it wasn’t as good and I would see exposure difference issues as well as other stitch line issues.Editing quick app (I like to edit on the go and not use a desktop) is ok for the 360 but not as great as the competitor.Maybe some firmware updates will help some of these issues but since I am no longer a die hard GoPro brand follower (but I am still keeping an open mind) given my needs and how the other 360 brand fulfills that need very well, I will be grabbing it instead. Not that I will never use the Max 2 as it has some great footage I can still use, just has a niche set of instances I would grab it over my other one based on my needs.
