I had a Hanes shirt I had purchased about 10 years ago and absolutely loved (still going strong!), but it’s finally starting to fade from black to that obviously faded color. It suddenly dawned on me that I should see if that style was still made – we’re talking Hanes here so not a company influenced heavily by the trends – or at least something similar. I found this which looked like it was made of the same comfy, durable, fabric and similar fit with roughly the same neckline and 3/4 length sleeves – all boxes checked plus a killer price! Based on the TruFit model info, I should have ordered the Large (I’m roughly a 12) but I always order up a size because of upper arm issues and I’m not fond of things clinging to my body – I love the comfort of a bit of spandex, but not how it looks when outlining my muffin top! I saw a few reviews saying it ran a bit small and looked at the photos and decided to order up 2 sizes, knowing this fabric and cut (assuming they were as I expected) would be very forgiving on sizing.My XXL came and it was perfect. Same fabric, same sort of fit as my old shirt. If I had the body of my youth and was fine with a more form-fitting top, the L would be a great fit. With my arm issues, the XL would absolutely have fit me and I’d have been happy with it. But the XXL was very comfy and just floats over my body in the middle without being overly loose in the shoulders or hips, the two places it actually contacts the body. It just hangs more in a straight line without accenting the dreaded bulge. With my extra 10+ pandemic pounds, this was exactly what was needed!The fabric is soft and substantial – not at all thin or see-through – and has enough stretch to be comfortable and allow a good fit in several sizes, depending on how tight or loose a top you prefer, flaws you wish to disguise, etc. It’s well-constructed and basic enough to be worn on its own (no jacket) with scarves or jewelry to dress it up a bit, plainer for more casual, and can be layered under sweaters, etc without lots of lumps or discomfort. Length is about mid to lower hip depending on your height and how you chose to size the top. Had I bought the size intended by TruFit, it would definitely have been mid-hip. Two sizes up and it was lower but still not bum-covering enough for leggings IMO.I was happy enough with it that I ordered 3 more.

Hanes makes great inner-wear but I have never bought any outer- wear, however I’m happy and relieved that this top is pretty comfortable to wear as well.I am 5. 3” and a little chubby, but this size fits me perfectly. I like to wear it over my jogging pants or tights when I go for my morning walks or when I do stretch exercises. I like to wear full sleeves for sun protection while outside so the length of the sleeves is good enough. The material is comfortable, 95% cotton and 5% spandex. I haven’t washed it yet, so I hope it doesn’t shrink much. If it does, I’ll come back and add to my review.

UPDATE 4/14/23The last two of these shirts that I have ordered are not the shirt I’ve loved. Both were black. The cotton is not nearly as soft, and feels rather scratchy, even after washing several times, and the hand feel is different, stiffer. I’m SO disappointed, but happy that I have a lot of back ups in my closet of my favorite all-time comfy shirt in the original fabrication.ORIGINAL POSTI counted my collection — I have a dozen of these shirts in all colors. Why?#1 — sleeve length. The 3/4 sleeve is perfection. Hides what it needs to. IYKYK#2 — garment length. I’m 5’9″ & long in the waist, these shirts are long enough to cover my belly.#3 — COMFORT, fabric is soft, stretch is perfect#4 — they wear beautifully with NO PILLING.#5 — they wash beautifully. My 1st purchase was 2 yrs ago, I wear one of the shirts almost every day (they’re THAT comfortable), so they get washed. A lot.#6 — fit is consistent, no matter the color. I wear XXL in these kinds of shirts (for non-cling) & this fit is as expected.After wash, I gently stretch the fabric (length & width) and dry until just damp then hang. Stretching definitely keeps the shirts in the shape that my body prefers (long and wide). I’ve forgotten them in the dryer, though, and they’re fine, too.They’re medium weight, and so too heavy for summer heat if you’re outdoors, or have no A/C. But, perfection the other 9 months of the year in my part of the country.

Update: increasing this rating to 5 stars and bought 3 more! The fit of the item suits me very well now. I ended up layering it under some of my sleeveless dresses and with stockings and tall boots, these cotton T’s work great!Only 4 stars because while the overall fit is fine, the sleeves are too short and tight. Every time I bend my elbow, the sleeves are wadded up at my elbow. Very annoying!

I like Hanes products because they never disappoint. This top is very comfortable and looks good on me. I wear it as a casual top when going out.

Hey, i really like this “HANES” top. I ordered one in the light pink. It’s a tad darker but still nice. I’m 185lbs & just over 5’6 & ordered a 2x. fits well & very comfortable ~ not see through. I wash everything by hand in cold water & hang to dry so there’s no shrinkage. (i use febreeze spray to iron out any wrinkles when i wear an item) You never really know if it’s the old Hanes brand that we’re used to buying in a store… On Amaz. it always seems like you never get what you see & the fabric sux now… (hard to find cotton anymore) the sizing is always what we read buying a “hanes” product & always arrives quick & on time. Good luck
